Personally, I am an everyday user of Facebook and Youtube, although I have never been a fan of Twitter and LinkedIn. That was till recently when I unlocked the full power, applications and capabilities of these social media titans. Working at TMD communications in Bangkok for just 3 months, I have begun to understand so much more - the importance of how once leveraged effectively, can create immense value for all parties that are connected through it. Having created and managed numerous Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages for clients, my mind boggles upon the possibilities and opportunities it creates for companies and brands alike.
Companies no longer can compete on simple sales, advertising and traditional marketing anymore. Customers want to feel special and connected with a brand and where else to interact with them than these social media platforms. Fortunately (or unfortunately), individuals have migrated online to make social connections with one another and businesses are taking advantage of that now. Customized pages provide the perfect online experience for targeted customers and allows companies to interact, track and engage with them on a personal level. In the older days, companies couldn't do this until the customer visits the store.
I wonder what is next for businesses, however? Just as advertising and sales tactics have become ineffective, when will customer start becoming immune to the charms of social media? But for now, there seems to be no stopping this rapid momentum in social media and its applications.
